ABOUT THERAPY

Information & FAQ

Therapy focuses on facilitating your personal and interpersonal functioning across your entire life. It pays attention to your emotional, social, vocational, cultural, health-related, developmental, as well as organizational concerns. My aim as a practitioner is to improve your well-being, alleviate distress and maladjustment, resolve crises, and increase your ability to function better in your life.

But therapy isn't only about focusing on problems, it's also about working through normal developmental milestones, and harnessing your strengths and talents - those things that bring joy and fulfillment to your life.

Interventions used in therapy may be either brief or long-term; they are often problem-specific and goal-oriented, so that they can be tailored specifically to your situation. These activities are guided by a philosophy that values individual differences and diversity, with a focus on prevention, growth, and adjustment for the future.

Issues you might want to addressed in therapy may include, but are not limited to:

  • Mental disorders (e.g. depression, anxiety, eating disorders)

  • Relationship difficulties: friends, couples & family.

  • School, career/work, retirement concerns.

  • Learning and skill deficits.

  • Negative life events (e.g. trauma, bereavement)

  • Organizational & systemic problems.

  • Adjustment to health issues or disabilities.

  • Identity development & adjustment.

About Therapy: FAQ

HOW LONG DOES EACH SESSION TAKE AND HOW OFTEN ARE THEY?

Sessions are usually 50 minutes long, and are scheduled for once a week. Depending on your specific needs and time commitments, however, this is can be flexible, for either longer/more frequent session, or shorter/less frequent ones.

WILL ANY OF MY INFORMATION BE SHARED?

Therapy is about confidentiality and creating a safe space, and I am committed to your privacy - both ethically and by law. There are a few rare legal exceptions to this, such as when you or others might be in imminent danger. However, even under such circumstances, you are, if possible, always contacted first for discussion.

CAN YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?

Only psychiatrists - who are medical doctors - can prescribe medication. However, I can work closely with your psychiatrists to ensure that you get holistic support. I can also refer you to reputable psychiatrists in your area as required.

WHAT IF I AM ALREADY SEEING ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL/COUPLES THERAPIST?

I am used to working with clients or couples who may already be seeing another therapist. With your consent, I can communicate and collaborate with your other therapist. This ensures that you get consistent and well-rounded treatment.

HOW DO YOU DECIDE YOUR RATES?

Because I work internationally, my rates are competitive to the area served and the services provided. I am a specialist in the field of psychology with years of post-graduate education, training, and credentials. Rates take into consideration my education, training, experience, as well as client's circumstances. Please note that payment is due at the time of service.

FOR COUPLES THERAPY, DO WE HAVE TO ATTEND ALL SESSIONS TOGETHER?

No, not at all. Though, ideally you would attend all sessions together as a couple, at times this may not be possible. Sometimes one partner cannot come regularly or does not wish to participate. In such instances, the issues that arise in the your individual sessions can still have a huge positive impact on the systemic nature of your relationship or household. And if you attend, you are encouraged to share new information with your partner either in the following session or at home.
